Women who stay at Margaret's have a wide variety of diagnoses and require intensive support to live in the community. The majority of women we serve are survivors of violence, as children and/or as adults. Living in an all woman environment helps residents cope with issues of safety and recover from past abuse.

Many women, when leaving hospital after treatment, face very limited options. Many have lost their employment, their families and their home. They have become rootless and face a future of homelessness and loneliness.

Research has demonstrated a clear link between decent, affordable housing and good health. It has also demonstrated that stable, satisfactory and safe housing promotes community involvement, decreases isolation, hospitalization and improves quality of life. At Margaret's we understand how vital stable, safe and affordable housing is in helping women recover from psychiatric issues.

We offer women a length of stay up to two years. We are staffed 24 hours a day and work with each resident assisting her to determine future goals and how best to achieve them. Margaret's provides a warm atmosphere, one based on respect, where women can relax, feel secure and build their self-esteem. We work hard to help women recover and re-build their lives.

Our support extends into the area of finding permanent and affordable housing that will provide women with a stable living environment. An essential part of recovery is finding a home.
